Maison Close restaurant in Montauk was destroyed by fire just hours before its planned Memorial Day weekend opening.
A press representative for the new Maison Close Montauk sent a message Friday morning: "We are sorry to announce that last night a fire claimed Maison Close Montauk at 435 East Lake Drive. The team is thankful that no one was hurt and for the assistance and bravery of the Montauk Fire Department. They are cooperating with authorities as they investigate the matter."
A recent press release stated, ""Blending the most iconic aspects of New York and French culture, Maison Close Montauk transports the lively vibe dining experience that originated in SoHo to Montauk.The new al fresco atmosphere features dock and dine slips for boaters and a luxurious outdoor area for guests to soak up the sun and unwind into the evening. Helmed by Executive Chef Geoffrey Lechantoux, the waterfront bistro offers a menu of sophisticated yet accessible dishes that will transport diners to St. Tropez," the release said.

An evening hike through the forest up to North Pond. Look & listen for nocturnal creatures and enjoy some night vision activities under the light of the moon. Reservations are required 24 hours in advance, as space is limited. A program for adults and families with children over 11. Payment is required at the time of reservation. $10/members, $20/non-members.

The Jamesport Country Store on Main Road on the North Fork is run by Howard Waldman. Started by his Mom in 1973 Mr. Waldman hired someone to run the shop when she passed in 1983. Eventually he left his job in Manhattan and took over.

Join the Southampton History Museum for a moderately hilly 4 mile hike starting at the kiosk on Sebonac Road 1/3 mile east of Tuckahoe School. This hike features our local wetlands, woodlands, streams and ponds and a fabulous overlook across the bays to the north shore. The hike is co-sponsored by the Southampton Trails Preservation Society. Leashed pets are welcome.

Seal WalkMontauk State Park | Saturday, March 4th 11a - 1p & Sunday, March 5th 12p - 2p
The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation is pleased to announce that Montauk Point State Park will host a series of hikes to observe wintering seals. Beginning in November 2022 and continuing through April 2023, a State Park naturalist will lead visitors on a scenic beach walk to an area where up to five species of seals can be observed. Along the hike, there will be opportunities to see many winter birds and to explore marine geology. If you’d like, bring binoculars!
Hikers will meet at the Office/Restroom building in the lower parking lot.
$4 per person upon arrival; Children under 3 are FREE (children must be accompanied by a guardian)! There is an $8 parking fee starting April 1st.
Reservations are required. Space is limited. If you are unable to keep your reservation, please cancel so others may have the opportunity to attend. Please try to arrive 10 minutes before the start time. Wear clothing appropriate for the weather and comfortable shoes for hiking. We will be outdoors for approximately 2 hours and the hike is approximately 3-miles long. Strollers are not recommended. No dogs allowed.
