A press representative for the new Maison Close Montauk sent a message Friday morning: "We are sorry to announce that last night a fire claimed Maison Close Montauk at 435 East Lake Drive. The team is thankful that no one was hurt and for the assistance and bravery of the Montauk Fire Department. They are cooperating with authorities as they investigate the matter." This hike features our local wetlands, woodlands, streams and ponds and a fabulous overlook across the bays to the north shore. The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation is pleased to announce that Montauk Point State Park will host a series of hikes to observe wintering seals. Beginning in November 2022 and continuing through April 2023, a State Park naturalist will lead visitors on a scenic beach walk to an area where up to five species of seals can be observed. Along the hike, there will be opportunities to see many winter birds and to explore marine geology. If you’d like, bring binoculars! Hikers will meet at the Office/Restroom building in the lower parking lot. $4 per person upon arrival; Children under 3 are FREE (children must be accompanied by a guardian)! There is an $8 parking fee starting April 1st. Reservations are required. Space is limited. If you are unable to keep your reservation, please cancel so others may have the opportunity to attend. Please try to arrive 10 minutes before the start time. Wear clothing appropriate for the weather and comfortable shoes for hiking.
