The summer might be over but there is still a lot to do in The Hamptons, now a four season fun and interesting destination.
Come visit! The weather was 64 degrees, sunny and flawless so why not hop on the quick ferry to Shelter Island and then another to Greenport on the North Fork for a day of outdoor fun. First stop was Harbes Farm, 715 Sound Avenue in Mattituck. Plenty of activities for everyone from a pumpkin patch to an assortment of barnyard animals in the petting zoo to a winery. The shop sells pumpkins and just-picked seasonal veggies, homemade pickles and much more. Right across the street is Patty's Berries & Bunches! On to Hallock's Cider Mill at 1960 Main Road in Laurel.
Canoe Place Inn & Cottages has been a fixture on the East End since 1697. Located in the town of Southampton, the Hampton Bays waterside retreat is the site of the nation's oldest inn. Now, renovated with every luxurious detail in mind--from well-appointed rooms and cottages, to a grand ballroom, beautifully landscaped grounds, access to charter yachts and all The Hamptons has to offer, a classic pool, spa and other amenities in mind--Canoe Place is ready for a new generation of posh travelers. We recently visited the Good Ground Tavern for a delicious lunch. The venue features Mediterranean-infused takes on classic cuisine. The dining room offers a comfortable bar with access to an outdoor patio with seating. For more info: visit canoeplace.com or call 631.763.6300. Address: 239 E. Montauk Hwy, Hampton Bays, NY 11946 The East Hampton Fire Department located at 1 Cedar St. in East Hampton, NY is the site for the Operation Safe Child ID program. The program is in partnership with the Suffolk County Sheriff's Office.
The program was created in July 2005 to raise awareness about child safety. If a child goes missing it is often difficult for worried parents/caregivers to provide accurate intel about a child's height, weight, eye color. The cards that will be issued on October 15 can assist law enforcement when responding to a disappearance report. The cards contain the child's updated photo, name, address, date of birth, gender, hair and eye color, and more. With the parents' consistent the information is also digitally recorded and stored in a database at the Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) in Albany and will be used when an NYS Amber Alert is issued. On October 9 the Amagansett Fire House will once again host the Tyler Valcich Memorial Car Show. The event will take place at 439 Main St. in Amagansett 11930.
The Car Show is 9 am to 2:30 pm, followed by the popular Car Cruise at 2:30 pm. To register your vehicle call 973-747-8053 or email cynthiamckelvey27@yahoo.com. The website is tylerproject.org..
